Anthropology has origins in the natural sciences, the humanities, and the social sciences.

Since the work of Franz Boas and Bronisław Malinowski in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, social anthropology has been distinguished from other social science disciplines by its emphasis on in-depth examination of context, cross-cultural comparisons (socio-cultural anthropology is by nature a comparative discipline), and the importance it places on long-term, experiential immersion in the area of research, often known as participant-observation.

Cultural anthropology in particular has emphasized cultural relativity and the use of findings to frame cultural critiques.

This has been particularly prominent in the United States, from Boas's arguments against 19th-century racial ideology, through Margaret Mead's advocacy for gender equality and sexual liberation, to current criticisms of post-colonial oppression and promotion of multiculturalism. Principally in the United States, anthropology is often defined as being "holistic" and based on a "four-field" approach.

There is an ongoing dispute on this view; supporters consider anthropology holistic in two senses: it is concerned with all human beings across times and places, and with all dimensions of humanity (evolutionary, biophysical, sociopolitical, economic, cultural, psychological, etc.); also many academic programs following this approach take a "four-field" approach to anthropology that encompasses physical anthropology, archeology, linguistics, and cultural anthropology or social anthropology.

The definition of anthropology as holistic and the "four-field" approach are disputed by some leading anthropologists, that consider those as artifacts from 19th century social evolutionary thought that inappropriately impose scientific positivism upon cultural anthropology.

While originating in the US, both the four field approach and debates concerning it have been exported internationally under American academic influence. The four fields are: Biological or physical anthropology seeks to understand the physical human being through the study of human evolution and adaptability, population genetics, and primatology.

Subfields or related fields include anthropometrics, forensic anthropology, osteology, and nutritional anthropology. Socio-cultural anthropology is the investigation, often through long term, intensive field studies (including participant-observation methods), of the culture and social organization of a particular people: language, economic and political organization, law and conflict resolution, patterns of consumption and exchange, kinship and family structure, gender relations, childrearing and socialization, religion, mythology, symbolism, etc.

(U.S.

universities more often use the term cultural anthropology; British universities have tended to call the corresponding field social anthropology, and for much of the 20th century emphasized the analysis of social organization more than cultural symbolism.) In some European countries, socio-cultural anthropology is known as ethnology (a term also used in English-speaking countries to denote the comparative aspect of socio-cultural anthropology.) Subfields and related fields include psychological anthropology, folklore, anthropology of religion, ethnic studies, cultural studies, anthropology of media and cyberspace, and study of the diffusion of social practices and cultural forms. Linguistic anthropology seeks to understand the processes of human communications, verbal and non-verbal, variation in language across time and space, the social uses of language, and the relationship between language and culture.

It is the branch of anthropology that brings linguistic methods to bear on anthropological problems, linking the analysis of linguistic forms and processes to the interpretation of sociocultural processes.

THE RETURN TO SILIGURI

Recent statitics show the enhancement of the western states the maximum. The urbanisation and industrialisation in cities like mumbai, nagpur, etc is incomparable to any of the north-eastern states. My opinion is that only Kolkata can be compared to it .I am in a very such state which is currently suffering from a dreaded sickness called "politics".Bihar as we know is getting its heritage damaged just because of some corrupted politicians and almost everyone in India knows whom I am talking about.I am currently in Jamalpur -a small village town near Munger the famous district where the famous character karan of Mahabharata used to rule. Now its really very hot here and even the rain is unable to realive any kind of uneasy feel. But the evenings here are quite comfortable but as the night again approaches the insects start their duty . This was a daily routine but now Siliguri is where now we are heading for and so I am really very happy but partly very sad because I will really miss my grandpa!!!!!!!!!

EXPERIENCING THE HARSH!!!!

It is a very hot and a humid day and it was the first time I had to travel in a general compartment and I wish this to be my first and last experience. My father couldn't get the night running train reservation as all the seats were already booked. With the weather really very unfavourable ,the conditions inside made it worse. With three people sitting in one long seat the things were made more suffocating. The worst part had still not come.About 12:30pm we were made to wait near paddy fields. The things got more worse with the increasing tempeature. One of the passenger, who was an old lady, fainted ! seeing this my sis and my mum were feeling quite uneasy.Things got better near about 4pm but we had already reached the outskirts of MALDA and were wishing that the weather remains the same as we now head to my nani's place!!!But the arrival time was not very convincing !!!!! we will reach there by 1:30am which makes the conditions even worse and what the hell is this !!!will Iever get to sleep for long hours!!!!!!!!!??????????

HATE TO SAY THIS BUT THE SCHOOLIS OVER TILL 5TH OCT AND OFCOURSE IT WOULD BE LIKE A DREAM COME TRUE FOR SOME PEOPLE BUT I HATE STAYING AWAY FROM SCHOOL.EVEN MY SIS COMPLAINED WHEN MY PARENTS USED TO TELL HER TO STAY AT HOME TO FINISH HER SYLLABUS AND "BLAH,BLAH"!BUT I'M HAPPY THAT THE EXAMS ARE OVER BUT ON THE OTHER HAND I'M REALLY VERY SAD THAT THE SCHOOL WILL REMAIN CLOSED FOR ABOUT HALF A MONTH.

ON SATURDAY STARTED MY "REAL" HOLIDAYS . I WAS SURFING THE NET FOR ABOUT 3 HOURS.THEN I SWITCHED ON THE T.V. AND FOUND MYSELF QUITE LUCKY TO SEE THAT THE ARSENAL VS WIGAN ATHLETIC HAD JUST BEGUN.

WHAT WAS NEXT ? I HAD MY DINNER AND THEN FOR THE FIRST-FIRST TIME IN MY LIFE I STAYED AWAKE TILL 3:30AM JUST TO WATCH ATHLETICO MADRID UP AGAINST ONE OF MY FAVOURITE CLUBS BARCELONA.THIS MATCH WAS ONE NOT TO MISS AS BARCA THRASHED ATHLETICO 5-0, BUT IN THE OTHER MATC REAL MADRID DEFEATED NEWLY PROMOTED XEREZ 5-1 TO STAY TOP OF THE TABLE AHEAD ON GOAL DIFFERENCE.

NEXT MORNING I WOKE UP AT 6 AND THEN HEADED TOWARDS COLLEGE GROUND TO PLAY SOCCER.WE PLAYED ABOUT 41/2 HOURS THERE.I CAME HOME AND FEELING REALY TIRED ,GOT FRESH AND SLEPT.

I HAD SAID ONE OF MY FREINDS THAT" ONEDAY WHEN THE SUN IS SHINING BRIGHTLY AND THE MOON IS SHINING ALONG WITH IT ,I WILL SLEEP 7HOURS SIMULTANOUSLY ;THE DAY HAD COME BUT THE MOON AND THE SUN WERE NOT SHINING TOGETHER"

ANYWAY CMMENTS ON THIS POST IS DEARLY WELCOME!!!!!!!!!!

THE KARIM BENZEMA WAY

Real Madrid's extraordinary and relentless summer spending spree continued to send reverberations through the football world last night when the club agreed a £30m deal to sign the France striker Karim Benzema, a transfer that takes their spending beyond £180m since Florentino Pérez was reappointed as their galáctico-obsessed president a month ago.

Pérez has now signed Cristiano Ronaldo for £80m, Kaka for £59m, Raúl Albiol for £13m and brought in the man regarded as the most exciting young player in France, in a deal that could rise to £35.2m depending on his success at the Bernabéu.

Benzema, the scorer of 23 goals in Ligue 1 last season, has been heavily linked with Arsenal and, particularly, but Sir Alex Ferguson's long-standing admiration for the 21-year-old player never manifested itself in the form of a concerted attempt to bring him to Old Trafford as a replacement for Carlos Tevez.

Instead, United have left Madrid unchallenged to add yet another striker to their already bloated squad. "We know his importance and his efficiency in our squad," Claude Puel, the Lyon coach, said. "He's an exceptional player but we also know the financial figures of the club."

Lyon said in a statement: "The player wishes to take the opportunity offered to him by Real Madrid to become one of the key players in an ambitious new policy involving several of the world's biggest players. Lyon has accepted Karim Benzema's decision and negotiated the terms of a transfer which satisfies all sides."

Benzema, who has helped Lyon win four Ligue 1 titles and has already accumulated 24 caps for France, scoring six goals in the process, was finalising the deal in Madrid tonight while, back in England, Ferguson's options now appear to have receded even further as he contemplates starting the season with only two senior strikers, Wayne Rooney and Dimitar Berbatov.

Ronaldo's transfer was officially formalised today, with United receiving the money in one lump sum, and the indications from Old Trafford are that Ferguson is happy to sit on the money for the time being, despite having already spent £16m on signing Luis Antonio Valencia from Wigan Athletic.

"Cristiano has been a marvellous player for Manchester United," Ferguson said in a statement. "His six years at Old Trafford have seen him develop into the best footballer in the world.

"His contribution has been a major factor in the club's success in that time and his talent, his ability to entertain and his infectious personality have enthralled fans the world over. Everyone here wishes him well in his future career."

Ronaldo's new career as a Madrid player had an inauspicious start, however, when he allegedly smashed a car window after being followed by photographers in Lisbon. A 17-year-old woman was reportedly hurt by flying glass and has filed a complaint to the police.

"He [the photographer] chased me by car from the Ritz Hotel with my mother in the car with me and they filmed all our actions," Ronaldo said on the website of Gestifute, the agency that represents him. "The chase so perturbed my mother that I had to stop and convince them to leave us." Reports suggested Ronaldo smashed the window with a single kick. A spokesperson for Lisbon police declined to comment.EXAGGERATING the fact that Benzema already has scored a brace taking his goal tally this season to 6 in 3 matches against newly promoted side Xerez. His goal was welcomed with joy as Real Madrid now top LA LIGA with 9 from 3matches.

BATMAN : THE HERO OF HEROES

Batman has defeated his comic book rivals Spiderman and Superman to be named the greatest superhero of all time in a new poll. The Caped Crusader, who has been fighting crime in comics, on TV and in numerous film adaptations since 1939, beat Peter Parker''s arachnid alter-ego into second place in the survey by SFX.co.

uk, Contactmusic reported. The Man of Steel flew into third place ahead of X-Men hero Wolverine, who clawed his way to number four.

''Iron Man'' rounded out the top five. "No matter how often Batman is reinvented - a noir detective in the 40s, a camp icon in the 60s, a Gothic Knight in the 80s - he''s always the coolest, most iconic and recognisable superhero there is," Dave Golder,

FIRST EVER POINTS FOR FORCE INDIA

Kimi wins, Fisichella in P2 at the Belgium GP

Kimi Raikkonen won the Belgian grand prix, Giancarlo Fisichella's second place is worth "squillions" to Force India, but the big winner at Spa-Francorchamps was Sebastian Vettel.

Kimi Raikkonen won the Belgian grand prix, Giancarlo Fisichella's second place is worth "squillions" to Force India, but the big winner at Spa-Francorchamps was Sebastian Vettel.

The German driver finished third, while his fellow championship rivals struggled.

Jenson Button crashed on the first lap, but his Brawn teammate Rubens Barrichello closed the title battle to within 16 points, with Vettel leapfrogging his Red Bull teammate Mark Webber to take third place in the drivers' standings.

The big headline however is the astonishing Belgian form of Force India's Fisichella, who started from pole but was overtaken down the long Kemmel straight by the KERS-assisted Raikkonen's Ferrari.

But the Roman, whose eight points are worth "squillions" to his Silverstone-based team according to business director Ian Phillips, hung onto his Finnish rival throughout the 44 laps, and the gap at the end was less than a single second.

"I'm a little bit sad because I was quicker than Kimi but he overtook me just because of the KERS. Actually, we could have won the race," Fisichella told reporters afterwards.

During the race, the Italian broadcaster Rai reported that a deal has been struck to see Fisichella, 36, switch to replace the hapless Luca Badoer at the next race at Monza.

"Oh, that's just a rumour as I said yesterday," Italian Fisichella said on Sunday afternoon. "Tomorrow I will be concentrating on Monza with Force India overalls and that's all I can say," he added.

Webber, just out of the points in ninth, had to serve a drive-through penalty when his lollipop-man unsafely released him from a pitstop into the path of Nick Heidfeld.

Barrichello was lucky to finish the race seventh with a heavily smoking Mercedes V8.

Button's first lap crash with Romain Grosjean, who the Brawn driver said "out-braked himself", is being investigated by the stewards, as is the similarly race-ending contact between Lewis Hamilton and Jaime Alguersuari

Kaka's career has been marked by success since his Sao Paulo debut at the age of 19. The newest member of the Madridista family now begins a new chapter in his career with new goals to be accomplished.

Experts say that footballers peak at the age of 26 or 27. Kaka is exactly 27 years and two months old at the time of his arrival at Real Madrid. The Brazilian midfielder hasn't wasted any time since becoming a professional and has won almost every title possible, so with a new chapter about to begin, Kaka's goal is to maintain the same rhythm of success that he has always enjoyed.

Kaka began playing professinal football in 2001. His first major accomplishment didn't have to wait long; that same season he helped guide Sao Paulo to the Torneio Rio-Sao Paulo and one year later to the Super Campeonato Paulista. By the end of 2003 Kaka was on the move to AC Milan, where his collection of trophies continued to increase.

The young Brazilian adapted quickly to his new team and in his first year he won the European Super Cup. The following season Milan won the Italian league and Super Cup, and Kaka was named the Seria A Footballer of the Year.

Kaka's most productive year came in 2007. Milan won the Champions League and Kaka finished as the competiton's top scorer and best forward. He also played a key role in the team's Club World Cup title, of which he won the Golden Ball. Later that season his picked up the FIFPro World Player of the Year award, followed by the Ballon d'Or and FIFA World Player of the Year
.ACCORDING TO ME HE IS A GENIUS.

The Arsenal defender William Gallas is 'relaxed' about staying at the club for another season and then leaving for nothing on a Bosman next summer.

Arsène Wenger faces a dilemma over the future of his former captain at Arsenal, William Gallas, after the France international indicated that he is willing to see out the final year of his contract at the Emirates and leave for no fee under the Bosman ruling next summer.

Gallas said that he is "relaxed" in anticipation of the season ahead with Arsenal, but he has yet to be offered new terms at the club and it is understood he is minded not to prolong his stay in north London beyond the end of the forthcoming campaign. The 31-year-old lost the captaincy to Cesc Fábregas at the Emirates last November after publicly criticising his team-mates, and that demotion is still a cause for frustration with the centre-half.

The former Chelsea defender's current deal runs until June 2010 and while he has retained the support of Wenger, the manager may decide to seek a fee for the player now rather than risk losing him for nothing in a year. Gallas had provoked interest from Paris St-Germain, Marseille and Lyon during the midwinter window and while French clubs would still be keen to get him home, he intends to spend at least one more season at a club he believes are capable of challenging for European honours, whether that be Arsenal or not.

ANOTHER IMPORTANT PLAYER TO BE NOTED IS FRANCESC FABREGAS .His improvement has been exceptional with his honourable two goals coming against Everton. His extraordinary apearance has led him to this extent of success that now he's been the only captain(midfielder) to score more than 50 goals for Arsenal.

His presence is so emphatic that the pace of game is created when he plays!!!
